Heritage register

Government listing of heritage-significant properties. Heritage listing brings restrictions on alterations and additional approval requirements.
South Australia maintains state and local heritage registers. Properties on either list have layered consent requirements for alterations - including some interior work in heritage-listed homes.
Past renovations on heritage properties were sometimes done without correct heritage approval. This creates legal complications at purchase: the new owner can be required to remediate non-compliant work at their cost.
When buying a heritage-listed Adelaide property, request a heritage-experienced inspector. They can interpret the heritage register listings alongside the standard pre-purchase report.
